Hey Everyone,

The battle continues, and in a direction that’s less than encouraging. Now that the Dhuvalian LIMB the ‘Dragoon’ has a more prominent place in the comic, I’d like to talk about it a little more.

As you’ve probably noticed, the MLaW-verse has a certain visual style, most noticeable in the LIMBs themselves. It was important for us that Dhuvalia’s Dragoon and the Free Market’s Outrider be very distinct from each other, but still look like they belong in the same universe. The feeling that we’re aiming to achieve is that of two conceptually similar machines, made for the same function; but manufactured with entirely different design philosophies in mind.

Mecha is an interesting genre, because it’s generally a war story, but it pulls heavily from both the superhero stories and soap-operas. A mecha isn’t just a war machine, it’s representative of both its pilot and its nation of origin, an avatar of sorts. It’s a conflict writ large fought by people and machines writ even larger.

I believe Matt has described the Dragoon as ‘The child of a BMW, a speedboat and a Harrier Jet’. It’s a high-performance machine made with no expense spared, designed to be both elegant and powerful. By contrast the Outrider is sturdy, mass-produced, budget-minded and the cockpit reeks of jet-fuel. While not direct analogies for their countries of origin, they give you insight into their pilots just by looking at them and watching them act. Or, at least, we hope they do.

This combines our love of Lego with our love of giant fighting robots (and thus, of course, LIMBs). Hey Everyone,

Yeah, this is going up pretty late (it still counts as Friday if you’re on the west coast like me!) but I think it’s worth it. The page is pretty detail intensive and Matt hit this one pretty hard. What could those mysterious shapes be? I’m going to lie to myself and pretend that everyone hasn’t guessed it already. Ok? Ok!

Teacher and comic artist Mark Badger was kind enough to give us some critique and reviews a few days ago and its definitely had an impact on us and I think will make the way we handle this battle even more kinetic and exciting. I don’t expect us to win any Eisners any time soon but I always like to know that we’re improving. Go give Mark’s stuff a look, especially if you’re a fan of the old-school like Jack Kirby or Joe Kubert.

Well, the Investors have spoken! Matt and I will begin the process of adding more lore to the website and begin work on a T-shirt design. As far as LIMB variations go, well, I think you’ll like what’s coming. I’ve recently finish the script for ‘My Life at War Book 1: Clock In You Simians!’, so there’s also that.

Hey Everyone,

Matt’s feeling better and the page is up! Hopefully you think this is as funny as I do. Also note that a small addition has been made to our cast page, with a few more additions set for the near future. I’ll also be sure to notify all of you when we bring the previous page up to our existing standards.

I’d also like to bring your attention to our current position on the Top WebComics list. We currently stand between 130 and 140 and are holding somewhat steadily, which is pretty damn rare for a comic that can only update once a week. Thanks again for your support. Our fanbase may not be as large as other comics on that list, but we’re proud to know that they’re so dedicated.

That being said, what else can we bring you? While we wish we had the time for more comic updates, what do you, the fans want to see more of in MLaW? More extensive cast entries? World history? Appendices? Side Stories? Merchandise and if so, what kind?. Matt and I have plans for a printed book but that will require us to at least complete this story arc first.

Hey everyone,

Today’s page is pretty rough because Matt’s been pretty sick. Normally a page takes him around 8-10 hours of work to finish. He did this page in less than 4 hours. We’ll fix this up soon enough, but we just wanted to advance the story.

Thanks for the recommendation from the Free Mars folks, if you haven’t checked them out, definitely look at them at www.freemarscomic.com . It’s punk rockers rebelling against evil corporations on Mars. If you don’t understand why that’s awesome, then our potential friendship is in danger.
