And we’re back to Dhuvalia!
You’ll notice that we’ve been doing a lot more jumping around in Book 2 as far as our narrative is concerned. An acquaintance recommended that I read American Flagg as an example of a classic comic with a fantastic sense of pacing. I’ve been pulling quite a bit of inspiration from Flagg while writing Book 2 (not in content but the way we’re structuring it). I can certainly recommend the Flagg. It’s 80s cyberpunk so it’s definitely NSFW but really impressive for its era. My only caveat is that the longer you read it, the more you start to ask yourself whether or not the author is a racist, not a deal-breaker but it can be distracting.
Another thing Matt and I have spent quite a bit of time discussing is the the Dhuvalian and Free Marketeer attitudes towards the world and how it effects their design choices. For example: the Free Market sees technology as a replacement to nature, whereas Dhuvalia sees technology as a tool which can cultivate nature towards a desired goal. These are the sorts of things I obsess over in my free time.
Thanks for reading,

UPDATE: Due to some scheduling difficulties, we will not be posting an update this week, my apologies. We will however, soon be premiering something that I think you’ll really like!

American Flagg is a great read
American Flagg is awesome. And while I don’t know about the author being racist or not, I remember a scene with the main character where he ditches a woman when he finds out that she’s a Nazi. And that seems like a strange scene to put into a story if the author is a racist. (Not that all racists would have to be on the same side, but still…)
I suppose I should qualify that statement a little. Maybe it’s a generational thing (they were writing American Flagg before I was born) but every now and again you get a character who fits so neatly into a racial stereotype that it’s a little weird.
Obviously comics are a medium that can require ‘fast’ characterization, sometimes reaching into archetypes can be a necessity.
I swear these guy’s culture gets more and more interesting with every page.
Indeed!
Curiousity killed the cat, but it hasn’t caught me yet: what happened to his knees?
It’s a congenital defect.
You must be this royal to enter.
