We are back!
Sorry for the delay, this page took more planning than you might imagine. Nailing the Dhuvalian look is always a little tricky because we’re trying to balance that old world aesthetic and sensibilities with their highly advanced technology and materials.
As for Volteza: yes, we know her arms are slightly out of proportion with themselves. This will make sense soon enough.
Matt and I are also proud to announce that we will soon be premiering our first MLaW merchandise. Our T-shirt will soon be available for sale. Sometime this weekend we hope to get the design posted ‘inside’ the vote button, so vote every day to get an early sneak peek at this awesome piece of art!
Thanks for reading,
- Luther out

Merch for mercs, nice!
Volteza seems like a interesting character, sure there is a nice back story regarding her prosthetics.
Excellent detail on this page. Has the artist gone mad yet? Bunch of us have a pool on when, where, and how he’ll snap, you see…
Heh, in another Latin-based language, her name sounds like miss goatee
And there I go imagining the family founder, seigneur Cavaignac, commanding armies and bearing his signature magnificent goatee
and you know what? I found him: http://www.probertencyclopaedia.com/j/Louis%20Cavaignac.jpg
As always, brilliant work gentlemen.
On a less positive note though, something I’ve been meaning to mention about MLAW for a while now: I often encounter trouble loading the pages. No one else seems (?) to be having this problem here, and I have very little trouble with other webcomics. Half way through loading the image of the page (more like 15% through, usually) it just stops loading the image, as if the TCP connection broke at some point. It might be that others also have a similar problem but I notice it because with the internet connections around here large comic pages may take a minute to load. The only way to get the page’s loading unstuck is to refresh the image each time until it loads all the way. Anyone else get this?
Interesting, I’ve yet to notice any issues on our end.
What browser are you using, including version?
What kind of internet connection do you have?
What country are you trying to access us from?
I mainly use Firefox 12.0 on my PC, under Linux.
I share (over ethernet LAN) a 1024kbps ADSL line with other people in a household. We check on eachother so someone rarely hogs all the bandwidth though
I am reading from Republic of South Africa, where I live.
I’m fairly confident the problem isn’t on my side as MLAW is the only comic that I have this problem with, and I read a couple of comics. I’m assuming your server is located in America of course. Considering that the TCP connection seems to hang without closing (Firefox’s throbber keeps spinning while nothing happens), and considering that I probably have around 10 times the latency most visitors have, perhaps it is the case that your http server has a very short TCP connection/activity timeout. Maybe, I dunno. I guess I should try the latest Firefox just to make sure.
I just tried using wget (my download manager) a few times and it also seems to be having trouble, even though it is in general much more resilient than web browsers in recovering from connection errors. Successful download of this page only 6 out of 10 times
Interestingly, transfer rate for Guilded Age’s most recent page is lower than that for this MLAW page, but transfer just randomly stops at times in MLAW’s case. I could post or email more details if you like.
At any rate, thanks for your consideration. It would be nice if you guys could also look into this, but I guess the problem /could/ be originating at your hosting, or at any point along the intertubes from there to here, placing it outside anyone’s hands to easily remedy it. I hope not, though.
I’ll be honest, I’m pretty technical but I don’t know jack about website management. Our comic is being hosted on GoDaddy so the servers are probably located in the USA. I’ll see if I can get one of my buddies to give things a lookover. He’s the most knowledgeable person I know on the subject.
Thank you for reporting this!
I help maintain the site in the background and have the exact same problem when backing up the site and downloading the large archive file. I thought it was isolated to this but will definitely investigate if it is affecting the actual site too.
Aaand I just overran the comment section. Ehm, sorry about that, everyone.
